Apple iPhone 4 Price in India

The most awaited mobile, iPhone 4 is going to hit the Indian mobile market soon. Talks are in progress between the country’s largest telecom operator, Bharti Airtel, and the handset maker, Apple.

Apple had last month announced the launch of the iPhone 4 with a sharper screen and video-chat features in an attempt to ward-off competition from devices running on Google‘s Android Operating System.

We are working with Apple. Hopefully in the September-October time frame we would launch the phone,” Sanjay Kapoor, Chief Executive of Bharti Airtel (India and South Asia), told reporters on the sidelines of a CII conference.As far as 3G is concerned, a very large amount of the network is 3G ready. We are working towards an aggressive timeline, added.

Bharti Airtel already sells iPhone 3GS in India priced at Rs 35,500 for the 16 GB model and Rs. 41,500 for the 32GB model.

Airtel, which won 13 circles in the auction of airwaves for third generation (3G) telephony spectrum, shelling out Rs.12,295.46 crore ($2.73 billion), has also started gearing up its network to enable a quicker rollout of such services.

but makes no difference. the major change is 3G & no sight of 3G perhaps for the next 8-10 months :p

also, The email attachment took 5 seconds to download on 3G and 18 seconds on EDGE. 3 seconds on WiFi.

Apple iPhone4 Unlocked Prices Revealed

Pre-orders for the iPhone 4 started today and some interesting information about the pricing of the unlocked version of the phone has been revealed.

iPhone 4 – 16GB Unlocked  -  499 GBP in UK and 629 EUR in France

iPhone 4 – 32GB Unlocked  -  599 GBP in UK and 739 EUR in France

That translates to roughly about Rs.35000 for the 16gig version and Rs.42000 for the 32gig version.

iPhone 4 Coming to India in October

If you are looking to buy the latest iPhone 4 in India through the official channels, you might have to wait until Diwali.

An Airtel executive recently confirmed to Reuters that the company is planning to launch iPhone 4 in India but around the September or October timeframe.

There’s no mention of price but it will obviously cost you more than a mid-range laptop. It is also not known if Apple / Airtel will offer free bumpers to iPhone 4 owners in India like they are do in the U.S. to fix the antenna related issues.

Vodafone, the only other cellular operator that sells the iPhone in India, has not confirmed their own launch dates yet.

If you want an iPhone 4 now and don’t mind paying the premium, there’s always the unofficial route – buy a locked iPhone 4 from US and unlock it on your own or get one from either the UK or Canada. Apple is ‘officially’ selling unlocked iPhones in these countries and therefore they’ll work out-of-the-box with any GSM (micro) SIM.
